Sassafras is closed May Day in solidarity with work and rent strikes. As a worker-owned business we owe our existence to centuries of workers’ struggles worldwide, especially Black-led worker cooperative movements that continue today (please see Collective Courage: A History of African American Cooperative Economic Thought and Practice by Jessica Gordon Nembhard for more information). The status quo of an economy that relies on exploiting workers and destroying the earth is unacceptable and unsustainable. We support every effort to end exploitation, rebuild systems of consentful interdependence and mutual aid, and restore indigenous sovereignty.
